The Human Computer Interaction Research Group (SLIIT-HCI) is one of the leading research groups in the Faculty of Computing (FOC) at the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).

VISION

To be the flagship Human Computer Interaction Research Group representing Sri Lanka in the international research community

MISSION

To create a friendly, enthusiastic, and encouraging research environment for researchers from all levels specializing in Human Computer Interaction and overlapping research fields within SLIIT and Sri Lanka, promoting high quality research, good organizational practices, new opportunities for researchers to work to their strengths, mutual encouragement and collaboration.

The group is still in its infancy, started on 2020-04-08 by SLIIT faculty members – Senior Lecturers Dr Shyam Reyal and Mr Jagath Wickramarathne as group chair and associate chair for HCI teaching, respectively. With its inaugural group meeting held as an online due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation prevailing at the time. Hence, with the appointment of Dr Kalpani Manathunga (Senior Lecturer - FOC) as the groups associate chair for research, and under the guidance of Dr Nuwan Kodagoda (Head of Department, CSSE), the group has flourished into one of the forerunning research groups in the faculty, despite its infancy.

The group now has 44 researchers from all three departments (IT, CSSE, ISE) in the Faculty of Computing - whom we consider as our biggest strength - a very active working committee of 9 members, led by 4-member board, Our members diverse research interests, diverse skills sets, and vast experience in both academia and industry contribute to mutual-learning, mutual-encouragement and providing a healthy and nurturing environment to do collaborative research within our faculty.

Our research work is performed in conjunction with various other research groups and research disciplines, and we currently have 7 ongoing projects involving N staff members albeit the infancy of the group. Further, we have several foreign collaborations with researchers from other institutions around the world.

We believe that through effective collaboration, we could deliver high quality research output within the field of Human Computer Interaction, both locally and internationally, thereby boosting the research profiles and careers of all our members, and be the platform within the faculty of computing for novel research and innovation.
